Ida F Walling, John M. Millican, Mary R. Hayward & George Edward Regan

This one's been a bit confusing, hence the inclusion here, but hopefully this straightens out a a few other difficulties in the Millican family tree here in Oregon.

John M. Millican was the son of Elijah Ellison Millican (1805 Georgia - 1887 Lafayette, Lafayette, Oregon) and Lucinda Wilson Crisp (1811, Tennessee - 1876, Lafayette, Oregon).

The Millican donation land claim in Lafayette Oregon can be seen HERE.  It includes the cemetery they are buried in on their property as the Lafayette Cemetery near the top.

John Millican married Mary R. Hayward on 13 March 1870 in the county of Walla Walla, Washington

from the Western States Marriage Index webpage (http://abish.byui.edu/specialCollections/westernStates/search.cfm)
Thereafter, Mary and John were divorced:

And Mary shows up in 1880 with her parents and two of the children, Frank H, and Maude L - note there are two Frank Millicans in Washington, they are cousins, Frank H. Millican was the son of John and Mary, Frank R. Millican was the son of James and Sarah Agee Millican.

Ida F. Walling (Feb 1877, Tillamook, Oregon - 11 July 1944) is the daughter of Jeptha Walling (1833-1905) and Bethair Trask (1945-1905).

Ida married John M. Millican in Tillamook, Tillamook, Oregon, 4 Sept 1898 - below is the marriage certificate and affadavit....

John Millican died in 1919 and was buried in the Multnomah Park Cemetery(his death certificate is attached to the memorial).

Ida apparently married George Edward Regan, and they resided in Portland until his death in 1942 when he was buried in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon, and she was buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon

Tillamook County Marriages - 1896-1900

I found a link to the OR Genweb project with all the marriages in Tillamook for the above listed years.

Of interest to me was the marriage of Martha A. Walling & Isaiah F. Gould (8 Feb 1896) with Martha being known as "Ma Gould" at least in my research on the topic, however this appears to be a result of her first initials "M.A." which can be seen on her headstone.

Thanks to someone who landed on my page dropping me a line (thank you!), I was provided the info for the divorce of Martha & Isaiah in 1902.

Also, I found the marriage of John M. Millican and Ida F. Walling, though I haven't found her grave yet, he is buried in the Multnomah Park Cemetery.

Wallings and Newsom(e)s in Oregon

Apparently, Mary Walling - daughter of Bethair Trask Walling and Jeptha Walling has been a mystery as to her marriage for quite some time now.

I was able to find two censuses, one in 1910 and one in 1900 for Mary Walling and her husband William Everett Newsom.

It began with a marriage in the Multnomah County Marriage Archives found here http://www.gfo.org/m1875/m1875_14.htm as being married in 1882 and recorded in the 1882 records for volume 4 page 271.

1882 was congruent with Mary's age as being married at age 20, however the name listed was only as W E Newsom.   Later, I found a "Will" being listed as the spouse to Mary Walling in the Oregon death records when she died on 18 April 1937 which gave me a clue as to his first name.

Later a search for a Will Newsom and a Mary and their info in Ancestry turned up two censuses mentioned above, in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon - I was able to safely conclude that this was the correct Mary Walling of the Trask descendants through the following:

It listed Mary's mother (Bethair Trask) on both censuses as being born in Massachusetts and her Father (Jeptha) in Illinois.

According to the records I've seen, Bethair was born in Oregon - but her father was from Massachusetts - often in family history the locations of births depending on who answered the door for the censuses sometimes get confused with a more prominent family member such as the Trasks - who did start in Massachusetts and Jeptha was in fact born in Illinois.   Was it any other way I wouldn't think that was a safe conclusion to make, however, the censuses were also consistent - so this was, I felt, a safe conclusion to make in this instance.
